This classic style is widely recognized as Germany’s own. TRADITIONAL STYLE – also referred to as Classic or Carved They all play an important role in the evolution of the cuckoo clock and are still produced and available today. These styles include the following: In addition to those, there are others that offer varying characteristics. They are the Traditional style cuckoo clock and Chalet style cuckoo clock. To start with there are two cuckoo clock styles most common among collectors and buyers. Now let’s figure out which clocks suit your taste and style. It keeps the experience fun and interesting. Choosing a style that is right for you will quickly narrow your search. Like most things we enjoy in life, selecting the perfect German cuckoo clock comes down to a matter of personal taste. Look for the Black Forest clock association (VdS) seal and certificate of authenticityīack to the Top STEP 2: PICK A STYLE OF CLOCK.Black Forest Clock Association certification is the German cuckoo clock quality gold standard. To be sure, look for the VdS seal and verify that the clock is a Black Forest original. The fact that a clock is referred to as a Black Forest cuckoo clock does not make it so. They are generally known for quality production. If purchasing a quartz cuckoo clock is your preference, it is recommend you select one from a producer that also makes certified mechanical cuckoo clocks. Since quartz cuckoo clocks have non-mechanical battery-powered movements, they do not qualify for certification. A certified cuckoo clock owner can be sure that their clock was built using the same time-tested traditions that have made the region world famous. The VdS certificate of authenticity represents quality through origin, mechanics, components and construction. To the credit of association, all authentic Black Forest cuckoo clocks are delivered with an official certificate. Together they created a certification process designed protect the Black Forest tradition and represent quality around the world. Also known as VdS or Verein die Schwarzwalduhr, this group of producers, traders, and cuckoo clock experts sought to formalize the strict practices the region is so well known for. In an effort to preserve the art, integrity and standards of fine cuckoo clock making the Black Forest Clock Association was formed. These past and present craftsmen built the standard by which all coo coo clocks are measured. Black Forest wood carvers and clockmakers alike are considered to be the best in the world. Schwarzwald is the well established home of the cuckoo clock. Germany’s southwestern region known as the Black Forest or Schwarzwald has been producing authentic cuckoo clocks for nearly 300 years. Producer standards, practices, origin, and reputation are all important factors in the measure of quality. Finding a quality and authentic clock can be challenging with so many cheap imitations on the market. You can find German cuckoo clocks for sale all over the world.

Kept the machine gun and carbine and RPG as my main upgrades. I dumped all boosts into Shield at first then Salts then health. What are your tips for Weapon/Vigor upgrades and how about Health/Shield/Vigor balance?įIrst off you spread your money WAY to thin. Upgraded the Rocket launcher for damage too. HC and Shotty cause I love em and the others because they seem to always be around. What are your tips for Weapon/Vigor upgrades and how about Health/Shield/Vigor This is off the top of my head as I'm not at home, but basically I've upgraded the Hand Cannon, Pistol, Shotgun, Machine Gun and Carbine. The flamethrower guys, grenade gun guys and handymen kill me a lot. I found the AI to have pretty excellent aim on Hard so I only poke out a second at a time. By the time I aim and shoot at a guy I've already been shot, my small shield bar is spent, and my health is blasted. Thinking about it now I'll probably go heavy into shield next playthrough. I'll say that I didn't upgrade my shield very much and instead put a lot of points into Health and Vigor. I play the game at a snails pace and loot everything I see (low ammo is rarely a problem). I try to rotate my vigors a lot but I really like Murder of Crows, the Water Puller Arm, Electricity and Throw/Levitate. I literally have never had more than $700 bucks on me. I just didn't have the money since I was dying so much and weapon upgrades are so much cheaper. Now this is going to seem like an obvious error but it's too late in the game for me to fix. This is off the top of my head as I'm not at home, but basically I've upgraded the Hand Cannon, Pistol, Shotgun, Machine Gun and Carbine. Tragically Hip singer Gord Downie has terminal cancer The singer announced last year he had been diagnosed in December 2015 with terminal brain cancer. Statement - /Z6dHmr1xpM- The Tragically Hip October 18, 2017 “Gord knew this day was coming – his response was to spend this precious time as he always had – making music, making memories and expressing deep gratitude to his family and friends for a life well lived, often sealing it with a kiss … on the lips.” “Last night Gord quietly passed away with his beloved children and family close by,” the statement read. The statement was released via the band’s official Twitter account and posted on its website. The music industry has been full of enigmatic farewells lately: David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Gregg Allman.ĭownie's was full of courage, music and-despite a deadly disease-sheer life.Gord Downie, frontman of the Canadian rock band Tragically Hip, has died, his family said in a statement Wednesday. One fan described it as a "marathon of hope," and noted the spirit of generosity and transparency running through Downie's final performances with the band.īefore he died, Downie completed a final solo album, Introduce Yerself, which The New York Times describes as "a strikingly intimate record of an artist processing the shock of his own mortality." (It will be released late this month, just a year after Downie's fifth solo record, Secret Path.) (Ticket sales responded accordingly, with many being snatched up by scalpers.) It was a farewell tour because of the public disclosure of Downie's illness, fans knew it was likely to be the band's last. It was brave, unusual and defiant in the face of a devastating disease.Īfter releasing Man Machine Poem, the Hip embarked on a brief but remarkable 2016 tour through Canada, culminating in that emotional Ontario display. #cdnpoli #ripGord /flj2A5AS0dĭuring his final months, Downie chose to say goodbye in his own unique way-and he let fans bid the beloved band farewell, too. Here is the Prime Minister's emotional reaction to the death of Gord Downie. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted about his sorrow-and teared up during an emotional tribute. The cancer responded well to treatment-radiation therapy, chemotherapy-but the prognosis was terminal. Downie had learned of the disease in late 2015, after suffering a seizure. When he announced in May 2016 that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer, it was cause for national mourning. That performance-the stadium, the scream-held particular emotional weight because fans knew it was likely to be the Hip's farewell: Downie was sick. 1 on the country's charts.Īnd Downie, for more than two decades, occupied some mysterious sliver at the heart of Canadian identity. The band sold more records in Canada than any other Canadian band. The Tragically Hip was always a distinctly Canadian phenomenon, "one of those enormous entities that cannot be understood outside its homeland," as the Canadian writer Chris Koentges put it. Related: David Bowie, Leonard Cohen and the art of the farewell albumĪmericans could be forgiven for not understanding. (An estimated one-third of the Canadian population-nearly 12 million people-reportedly watched the event from afar.) And millions of Canadians shared in the grief. It was an extraordinary display of emotion and grief, not what one typically expects to find at a stadium rock show. He closed his eyes and screamed into the microphone. Downie, the group's frontman, trembled and wailed and filled up with tears. It was a deep, full-body wail-then another, and then another-during the final notes of "Grace, Too," the 1994 hit by his band the Tragically Hip. On August 20, 2016, Gord Downie stood onstage at an indoor stadium in Kingston, Ontario, and let out a scream. Find the shortest point and trim everything up so it’s all nice and round.Ĩ. Time for a haircut! See how the pieces are all uneven around the edges. See below how some pieces are a little longer. Once it’s tied off, use your fingers to brush each side of the pom pom out flat. Some people go back around to the other side and tie another knot. Use quite a bit of tension until you pull tightly around the center of the pom pom. It will almost make a clicking noise as you pull it tight to tie the knot. Take that first 10″ piece that you cut in the very first step and slide it between the grooves you used for cutting and pull them tight. You have to hold the wrapped arms together.ħ. Make sure there is no thread left in any of the grooves and be sure the thread that connected the two sides together during the wrapping stage is also clipped. Hold the wrapped arms together and turn the donut shape on its side and use the grooves in the maker to slide your scissors through all of the loops and cut them. If you’re not quite sure if both sides are even, you can fold the second side in to check and then fold it back out to remove some from the second side or add more.Ħ. When you’re done wrapping the second side, fold it in as well. Don’t worry about that piece that is stretched across. Watch the cleats again! Wrap these two arms until you get them the same size as the first side. Yes, you are really going to just pull the yarn across like the picture. Just pull the yarn to the other side and this time start wrapping from the inner portion and work your way out to the other side. Hold that side in, turn the maker over, and fold the other set of arms out. The pom pom might be a little fat, but just fold it in tight. When you get that side of the half-circle wrapped, make sure you end where you started on the outside tip and fold it in but DON’T cut the yarn. The right side is lumpy and bumpy and I need to work on making the yarn wraps more smooth.ĥ. The left side is nice and smooth and almost a perfect half-circle. This image is jumping ahead a bit but I wanted to demonstrate the correct way to wrap and the incorrect way. Keep wrapping until the yarn on the bottom side is not quite straight across. How many times you go back and forth depends on the thickness of the yarn and the size you’re making. The idea is to keep everything even in thickness and as rounded as possible. Remember, the cleats need to stay fully visible. Once you reach the center of the maker, work your way back in the other direction and cover any areas that you missed the first time. If you turn the maker over, you’ll see two square cleats. You’ll want most of the white portion covered. Start on the outside tip and hold your yarn in place (don’t tie a knot, use the yarn to hold itself in place as you wrap) and begin wrapping the yarn with reasonable tension around both arms and make one row with closely wrapped yarn until you reach the center of the maker. The second set of arms is still folded in on the left like below.ģ. The two white arms that were once on the bottom are pulled out and lined up with the outer arch facing up pictured on the right side. Pull out the two arms on one side of the maker and line them up so they’re flush. I used about a 10″ piece because I would rather have more than necessary than cut it too short.Ģ. The length of this yarn will depend on if you’re going to tie your pom pom to something or not.
Most hydrogen is used near the site of its production, the two largest uses being fossil fuel processing (e.g., hydrocracking) and ammonia production. A small percentage is also produced using more energy-intensive methods such as the electrolysis of water. Industrial production is mainly from steam reforming of natural gas, oil reforming, or coal gasification. In 1766–1781, Henry Cavendish was the first to recognize that hydrogen gas was a discrete substance and that it produces water when burned, the property for which it was later named: in Greek, hydrogen means "water-former". Hydrogen gas was first artificially produced in the early 16th century by the reaction of acids on metals. Because hydrogen is the only neutral atom for which the Schrödinger equation can be solved analytically, the study of its energetics and chemical bonding has played a key role in the development of quantum mechanics. The H + cation is simply a proton (symbol p) but its behavior in aqueous solutions and in ionic compounds involves screening of its electric charge by nearby polar molecules or anions. In ionic compounds, hydrogen can take the form of a negative charge (i.e., anion) where it is known as a hydride, or as a positively charged (i.e., cation) species denoted by the symbol H +. Hydrogen plays a particularly important role in acid–base reactions because these reactions usually involve the exchange of protons between soluble molecules. Hydrogen is nonmetallic (except when it becomes metallic at extremely high pressures) and readily forms a single covalent bond with most nonmetallic elements, forming compounds such as water and nearly all organic compounds. The emergence of neutral hydrogen atoms throughout the universe occurred about 370,000 years later during the recombination epoch, when the plasma had cooled enough for electrons to remain bound to protons. In the early universe, the formation of protons, the nuclei of hydrogen, occurred during the first second after the Big Bang. For the most common isotope of hydrogen (symbol 1H) each atom has one proton, one electron, and no neutrons. Most of the hydrogen on Earth exists in molecular forms such as water and organic compounds. Stars such as the Sun are mainly composed of hydrogen in the plasma state. Hydrogen is the most abundant chemical substance in the universe, constituting roughly 75% of all normal matter. It is colorless, odorless, tasteless, non-toxic, and highly combustible. At standard conditions hydrogen is a gas of diatomic molecules having the formula H 2. Hydrogen is the chemical element with the symbol H and atomic number 1. Protect yourself,” Christian Dubé, Quebec’s health minister, posted on Twitter after retweeting a newspaper story about the uptick in vaccination appointments. Thank you to everyone who decided to get vaccinated. “In just a few days, appointments for the 1st dose went from 1.5K per day to over 6K yesterday. Last week, Quebec announced that residents would now have to be vaccinated to buy alcohol or cannabis, and the health minister claimed on social media that vaccine appointments spiked as a result. Officials did not give a specific percentage of how many hospitalized Covid patients were unvaccinated. Nearly a quarter of all Canadians live in Quebec, and while the province was one of the first in the country to introduce a vaccine passport, public health officials say the vast majority of patients in Quebec hospitals remain unvaccinated. The Quebec government says that while nearly 90% of eligible Quebecers have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, the unvaccinated remain a burden on the province’s public health system. The fine would not apply to those with a medical exemption, and no details have been announced, although the premier said the amount to be levied would be “significant.” “It’s a question also of fairness for the 90% of the population who made some sacrifices, and I think we owe them this kind of measure.” “Right now, these people, they put a very important burden on our health care network, and I think it’s normal that the majority of the population is asking that there be a consequence,” Quebec Premier François Legault said at a news conference Tuesday. On Monday, the mayor announced during a press conference that the District was creating six new testing centers dedicated to senior residents and an enhanced system for testing kits for young school children and staff. The mayor does reserve the right to extend the emergency if she feels it is necessary. The directive says that the emergency posturing will allow the city “to appropriately protect public health and provide the authority necessary to modify administrative procedures, deadlines and standards” while it is in place. Some hospitals are experiencing 25% staff out on Covid-related leave.” Hospitals cannot use all their bed capacity due to staff shortages. “The physical capacity of hospitals remains strong, but emergency rooms are overwhelmed. “Notwithstanding the large number of persons vaccinated against Covid-19 in the District and the effectiveness of those vaccinations at preventing severe illness and death, stress on the District’s hospitals and healthcare providers has recently increased,” the order says. I’d consider putting a lot of the data I backup on Backblaze in to a cloud as well. In part, the reason I store little data in iCloud because of this worry. I’m not considering any plans for Teams as they require a minimum of 3 people.Īt the moment, what I store in iCloud is roughly 40GB of data. Nice rant about the state of cloud providers
